Jacky Hunsley very generously, left Leeds Mencap a large sum of money in her will which has given us the fantastic opportunity to build a wonderful playground at the front of our East End Park building.

We wanted to use this donation in a way that would leave a lasting legacy in memory of Jacky and this fabulous addition to our building will be named Jacky’s Place in testimony to her generosity.

All the children (and the staff!) are having a wonderful time exploring this new and exciting area that has made such a difference to the whole building.

The official opening will be on Saturday 27th March 2010 when we look forward to welcoming Jacky’s family and friend to Leeds Mencap and we would love to see as many of our members and supporters there as well to help us celebrate this fantastic new addition to our East End Park Building.

Andrew Hodge, who won gold for rowing at the Beijing Olympics, returned to his former school, Belmont Grosvenor at Harrogate, to officially open the newly-completed adventure trail, outdoor classroom and amphitheatre.

The new equipment was paid for with money raised by Belmont Grosvenor’s Parent Teacher Association.

Pupils, staff and parents watched and cheered as the Olympic hero opened the new facilities – and the story made both the regional BBC news and radio stations, as well as receiving extensive coverage in the local newspapers.
